Cydra Vaux was Gregson Vaux’s sister. She died on July 13, 2013 at the age of 51, after battling cancer for many years. This coin design is to honor her memory. Cydra was an artist who lived in Pittsburgh. Her artistic message often focused on the feminine divine. She asserted that if we are all made in God’s image, then God must be a woman as much as a man. She focused on showing God as female in her art.

This coin is a limited edition from the second production run. The colors are black, red, and amber glass fused onto the metal (cloisonne).

Cydra studied acting and was an actress for many years before choosing a career in teaching art. In a sense she never really left the stage since she was always a person who commanded the attention of everyone in the room. She was a high-energy person who always filled her surroundings with light. As she traveled the world, every place that she went was her stage.

The picture was commissioned when this coin design was made. Cydra was a huge fan of the Hindu religion.
